Frequently asked questions:

Q: Do I have to live in Chicago to take this class?
A: No! Our classes are held on the University of Chicago campus, in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. As long as you can arrange reliable transportation to your class, you are welcome to apply regardless of location.

Q: How much does your class cost?
A: Both our ACT and our SAT class are completely free. We do require that students accepted into the program purchase the program's required textbook. These textbooks can often be found on Amazon for under $15. If purchase of the textbook is a financial hardship for you and your family, we offer financial waivers which will exempt you from purchasing the book. If this is the case for you, please contact us after being accepted into the program. Our goal is for WIT to never be financially prohibitive for any of our students. If there's a way we can make that happen for you, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Q: Can I apply if I'm a freshman?
A: Yes! All students in high-school or entering high-school when they apply will be considered for the program. Please note that, in the unfortunate case of limited space in the program, we will prioritize junior and senior students over freshman and sophomore students. These students are closer to their college application period and have a more limited time in which to take the ACT or SAT. However, we have succesfully admitted freshman and sophomore students in past years and they have been extremely successful. As long as you can arrange reliable transportation to your class, you are welcome to apply regardless of location.

Q: Do you offer a summer session of your class?
A: We are sometimes able to offer a summer session - this depends strongly on teacher availability and student demand. Our website will always state the status of current and future summer sessions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have a question about the summer session or would like to express interest; knowing there are interested students makes summer sessions possible.

Q: Do you provide one-on-one tutoring?
A: WIT itself does not provide one-on-one ACT or SAT tutoring. However, many of our experienced teachers may be able to offer individual ACT or SAT tutoring - if this is something you are interested in, please contact WIT and we can put you in touch. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the availability of free one-on-one ACT or SAT tutoring at any time.
